Young Australian or New Zealand citizens who are University Degree graduates  are eligible to undertake a one year long, work experience and study  programme in New York City. On successful completion, graduates receive Post Graduate Certificate in International Business Practice" issued by the Mountbatten Institute and St Mary's University College, London. This certificate gives the recipient up to 60 post graduate credits which are accepted by most UK and EU universities.

Alternately, candidates may apply to complete the MBA programme, which consists of a 12 month internship or traineeship in New York and then a concentrated 4 month study programme in Bangkok. Because the programme itself provides "work experience" there is no requirement for existing work experience to be accepted into the MBA programme. Full details are available on the mountbatten.org website.

The Mountbatten Internship Programme, (named in honour of the late Earl Louis Mountbatten of Burma) and under the patronage of his daughter, the Countess Mountbatten of Burma, has operated for over 25 years in New York.  Presently there are approximately 300 candidates (called "interns" or "trainees") undertaking the programme each year.  The Programme has two intakes each year - March and August.

The Programme is structured to make the transition to living in a new country as easy as possible.  The Programme finds a sponsoring corporation who will provide the work experience component of the course.  This is finalised before interns leave their country of origin.  The sponsors undertake to provide a suitable position with agreed learning parameters for their interns.  They provide a "mentor" for each intern.  Many have internal induction and training programmes to which the interns also have access.  The sponsors have an integral part in the Post Graduate Certificate Programme, providing feedback through appraisals and input for the special project each intern is required to complete.

The seminar component consists of lectures each week after working hours.  The courses provide background on American history, culture, politics and American business practices.  Interns are required to undertake a special project involving some original work directly related to their sponsor's business.  Final modules cover personal goals, writing resumes and interviewing techniques, in preparation for the return home.

The Programme provides free, shared room accommodation for all interns.  The accommodation is in a security apartment complex in Pavonia/Newport, just across the Hudson River from Manhattan.  It is located close to the underground railway station and across the street from a large shopping mall.  The Programme employs an on-site supervisor to help with any problems, illnesses, etc.  The three bedroom apartments are fully furnished and equipped - all interns need to supply is their own bedlinen.

The accommodation system provides the new intern with a large group of instant friends - roommates, flat mates and fellow interns - a giant peer support group!

The Programme provides free emergency medical and hospital insurance for all participants and a living allowance - so you will be self sufficient during your year.
